When I met Sarah she was working with an Indigenous organization called Odeiwin: Connect. Now Sarah is making waves with her own unique approach to education and Indigenous traditions as the founder of Miskwaadesi Facilitation & Consulting.

She skillfully blends storytelling, hand drumming, and crafting to unite people and celebrate Indigenous culture. Through her engaging workshops, Sarah fosters connection, understanding, and the passing of traditional knowledge and skills, creating lasting impact.

I had the pleasure of learning how to make a medicine pouch with Sarah. She is patient and articulate, sharing her knowledge clearly through both visual and auditory methods while also including the Indigenous history behind each craft.

Medicine Gardening

Sarah demonstrates her passion for nature through gardening and Indigenous seed and plant education. She was also involved in the creation and maintenance of Richmond Hill's first Indigenous Medicine Garden.

Sarah actively participates in events like seed swaps, including my very first Shared Abundance Seed Swap, where community members exchange seeds. Sarah grows sweetgrass, tobacco, prairie sage, beans, along with a wide variety of herbs, vegetables, and flowers. These gatherings help ensure that Indigenous medicinal seeds are accessible to everyone.

Sarah has distributed hundreds of free seed packs, providing community members with the resources to cultivate these plants in their own gardens.

Embracing Accessibility

Accessibility is a cornerstone of Sarah’s work. By hosting free plant giveaways and engaging in community events, she makes Indigenous plant knowledge more widely available.
